Launching a Motor Insurtech in the UK

A venture-backed team with deep technology talent but no insurance experience needed to obtain FCA permissions, design a compliant product, and secure capacity — all before their runway expired.

We embedded as interim Head of Insurance, leading the regulatory application, designing the target operating model, and negotiating a capacity arrangement with a Lloyd's syndicate. We built the compliance framework in parallel so launch wasn't delayed by remediation.

FCA authorisation granted within 9 months. First policies bound 11 months after engagement started. The operating model we designed scaled to 50,000 policies without structural change.
